According to Lewis County Historical Society, Lowville is the one of the original townships in Lewis County, dating back to 1800.
The Town Hall Theater is located in the heart of downtown Lowville, and was originally an Opera House, a USO Club, and a Silent Movie House. The theater was heralded as the most outstanding and beautiful theater in Northern New York after undergoing remodeling under the ownership of Earnest J. Wolfe. The theater is now owned by the O'Brien family.

Looking to enjoy nature? You can find the Lowville Forestry Demonstration Area right on Route 812. The Lowville Forestry Demonstration Area is located on 98 acres at the former NYS Tree Nursery. The nursery was in operation from approximately 1923 to 1971 and during that time, a total of 530 million seedlings were produced. Now, the Area is open year-round for you to enjoy hiking, fishing, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing.
