#SustainablyLewis

Green Living in Lewis County

By Kaylee Tabolt, Marketing and Communications Intern

With open spaces, clear skies, and a legacy renewable energy industry, sustainable living in Lewis County is the natural choice! Lewis County is committed to being green- that's why we're #SustainablyLewis. Take a look at our efforts to keep our green spaces abundant!

1. We prioritize renewable energy

Lewis County has always been #TheNaturalChoice for green business! With a rich history in hydro, we have a foundation for growth- and we're taking advantage of it! Lewis County is home to nearly 300 wind turbines (with more coming soon!) and we have over 2,800 acres of proposed solar arrays! Our legacy in green business is continuing, because we are #SustainablyLewis.

2. We're a Clean Energy Community

Lewis County was named the first Clean Energy Community in the North Country by NYSERDA, recognizing our commitment to reduce energy consumption, cut costs and drive clean energy. By implementing electric vehicle charging stations, approving an energy benchmarking policy to track energy use in municipal buildings, and completing energy code enforcement training on best practices in energy code enforcement for code compliance officers, Lewis County continues to make headway in green energy and sustainable communities.

3. We're working to become a Climate Smart Community

Lewis County continues to strive to become a Climate Smart Community through the creation of a comprehensive climate action plan, decrease energy use, approach materials and land use from a “climate smart” perspective, and encouraging “green innovation” in our communities and businesses.
