West Leyden Elementary School
Request for Expressions of Interest
About the Opportunity.
The 9.9 acre multi-parcel site in the hamlet of West Leyden, New York is being made available for reuse or redevelopment by Adirondack Central School District. Naturally Lewis, Inc. is offering this Request for Expressions of Interest (RFEI) prior to soliciting full proposals.
The property will be used as an elementary school through June 2025. Upon decommissioning, Adirondack Central School District will commence cleanout. The site includes a 45,000 square foot building that was constructed in 1927, with additions in 1935, 1959 and 1999 as well as a separate garage building. The property has a u-shaped drive, parking area, playground, lawns, and approximately three acres of wooded area. It is served by a high yield well and septic, heated using fuel oil and has high-speed broadband.
The property is strategically located between the Village of Lowville, a DRI community, and the City of Rome; the property is parallel to the Village of Boonville, a DRI community. The former West Leyden Elementary School has potential to support regional economic development with its proximity to large projects in Marcy, Rome, and Clay. The site is located directly adjacent to NYS-26, seven miles from NYS-12, and 30 miles from I-90 and access to NYS-81.

FAQs
A RFEI process is a "request for expressions of interest" process. We're simply asking anyone interested in developing the West Leyden School to let us know so we can ensure intentional reuse of this space.
Naturally Lewis, Inc. has contracted with Adirondack Central School District to conduct the RFEI process. As the lead economic development organization in Lewis County, property and site development is a key outcome of the work we do.
So, why are we interested in the West Leyden School? We don't want to see another vacant space in our community!
Yes! One of our greatest success stories is the redevelopment of the former Port Leyden Elementary School. After a thorough RFEI process, a local family established Port Leyden Portal, LLC. and is redeveloping the former school into housing for aging adults.
At Naturally Lewis we're also real community members. We're championing the growth of a Lewis County we all want to live, work, build business, and recreate in.
West Leyden Elementary School is consolidating with Adirondack Central School District. For more information on this consolidation please connect with the school!
With the anticipated vacancy of the school, Adirondack CSD and Naturally Lewis, Inc. are intentionally and thoughtfully ensuring that the space does not sit empty in our community.
Anyone! Whether you're a community member with a vision or a professional property developer, we're interested in hearing your plan for the reuse of the West Leyden Elementary School. Please submit your expression of interest via the Naturally Lewis website.
