The Black River Valley has a historical marker around every corner- a feature motivating today's entrepreneurs to develop a boom of prosperity. Historically, southern Lewis County was influenced by the Black River and the Erie Canal, but today it's influenced by its prime location near the Adirondack Park, and the open spaces and natural resources of Lewis County.

While in the Black River Valley, be sure to stop into the Edge Plaza. Home to its namesake, The Edge Hotel, the Plaza houses Boondocks Restaurant and Bar, Marinos Pizzeria, and Deep Roots Market & Café. Behind the plaza, 3 Willows Event Center is a recently opened facility, with an awe worthy outdoor space to complement its large banquet hall.

Otter Creek Horse Trails are also located in the Black River Valley. According to Adirondacks Tug Hill, “The Independence River Wild Forest and the Otter Creek State Forest have about 65 miles of wonderful horse-riding trails.”

Not to be overlooked, the vast area of the Black River Valley is united in the home of the Falcons- South Lewis Central School. A newly combined K-12 facility, South Lewis is newly renovated, starting a new chapter in continuation of its rich educational history.
