The Community Economic Development Fund is the mechanism for investing in initiatives that build a great quality of life, sustainable employment and collaborative plans that make Lewis County a community to thrive at work and at home. In viewing our communities as intrinsically interconnected, this county-wide fund is used to grow businesses, enhance individualcommunities, and strengthen our local economy through thoughtful risk-taking, building community partnerships and making wise investments. The fund will leverage the knowledge and expertise of our businesses and communities to invest in projects that make Lewis County a great place to live, work, build business and play for current and future generations.

“The Communtiy Economic Development Fund provides a great opportunity for both community and economic development growth over an extended period of time,” said Timothy Petersen, LCDC Board President. “Since funding will be provided annually, this program has the ability to adapt to both economic and community needs over time.”

The Lewis County Development Corporation created the Community Economic Development Fund Program in 2022 with funds made available through a Host Community Agreement between the Number 3 Wind project and the LCDC. Beginning in 2023, the CEDF will provide $150,000 of grants on an annual basis to Lewis County businesses, organizations, and communities. CEDF Committee Members will analyze and review grant applications and make program recommendations to the LCDC Board of Directors.

“Lewis County continues to reap the benefits of green energy production in our community,” said Lawrence Dolhof, Lewis County Chairman of Legislators. “This new initiative will ensure windmill revenue goes directly to important community projects such as recreation, education, and infrastructure. The Community Economic Development Fund is thoughtful and creative public policy, and the County is proud to support this initiative.”

DSC4740Lewis County IDA Board President, Joseph Lawrence added, “The Community Economic Development Fund is an innovative approach to utilizing funds from renewable energy projects to invest in key initiatives across our county and offers the opportunity for lasting impact beyond the life of any one energy project.”
